Norris continued, “It is quite delightful, ma’am, to see young
people so properly happy, so well suited, and so much the thing! I
cannot but think of dear Sir Thomas’s delightAnd what do you
say, ma’am, to the chance of another match? MrRushworth has set
a good example, and such things are very catchingRushworth, who saw nothing but her son, was quite at a

“The couple above, ma’amDo you see no symptoms there?”
“Oh dear! Miss Julia and MrYes, indeed, a very pretty

Fanny could listen no fartherListening and wondering were all
suspended for a time, for MrBertram was in the room again; and
though feeling it would be a great honour to be asked by him, she
thought it must happenHe came towards their little circle; but
instead of asking cartier roadster replica her to dance, drew a chair near her, and gave her
an account of the present state of a sick horse, and the opinion of
the groom, from whom he had just partedFanny found that it was
not to be, and in the modesty of her nature immediately felt that
she had been unreasonable in expecting itWhen he had told of his
horse, he took a newspaper from the table, and looking over it, said
in a languid way, “If you want to dance, Fanny, I will stand up with
you With more than equal civility the offer was declined; she did
not wish to dance“I am glad of it,” said he, in a much brisker tone,
and throwing down the newspaper again, “for I am tired to deathI
only wonder how the good people can keep it up so longThey had
need be all in love, to find any amusement in such folly; and so they
are, I fancyIf you look at them you may see they are so many
couple of lovers—all but Yates and MrsGrant—and, between ourselves,
she, poor woman, must want a lover as much as any one of
themA desperate dull life hers must be with the doctor,” making a
sly face as he spoke towards the chair of the latter, who proving,
however, to be close at his elbow, made so instantaneous a balenciaga dix motorcycle change of
expression and subject necessary, as Fanny, in spite of everything,
could hardly help laughing at“A strange business this in America,
DrGrant! What is your opinion? I always come to you to know
what I am to think of public matters
“My dear Tom,” cried his aunt soon afterwards, “as you are not
    dancing, I dare say you will have no objection to join us in a rubber;
shall you?” Then leaving her seat, and coming to him to enforce the
proposal, added in a whisper, “We want to make a table for MrsYour mother is quite anxious about it, but
cannot very well spare time to sit down herself, because of her fringe
Now, you and I and DrGrant will just do; and though we play but
half-crowns, you know, you may bet half-guineas with him
“I should be most happy,” replied he aloud, and jumping up with
alacrity, “it would give me the greatest pleasure; but that I am this
moment going to dance Come, Fanny, taking her hand, “do not

Fanny was led off very willingly, though it was impossible for her
to feel much gratitude towards her cousin, or distinguish, as he certainly
did, between the rolex vintage women's watch selfishness of another person and his own
“A pretty modest request upon my word,” he indignantly exclaimed
as they walked away“To want to nail me to a card-table for the next

me in such a way too! without ceremony, before them all, so as to
leave me no possibility of refusingThat is what I dislike most particularly
It raises my spleen more than anything, to have the pretence
of being asked, of being given a choice, and at the same time addressed
in such a way as to oblige one to do the very thing, whatever
it be! If I had not luckily thought of standing up with you I could not

    CHAPTER XIII
THE HONOURABLE JOHN YATES, this new friend, had not much to
recommend him beyond habits of fashion and expense, and being
the younger son of a lord with a tolerable independence; and Sir
Thomas would probably have thought his introduction at vintage cartier watch Mansfield
by no means desirableBertram’s acquaintance with him had
begun at Weymouth, where they had spent ten days together in the
same society, and the friendship, if friendship it might be called,
had been proved and perfected by MrYates’s being invited to take
Mansfield in his way, whenever he could, and by his promising to
come; and he did come rather earlier than had been expected, in
consequence of the sudden breaking-up of a large party assembled
for gaiety at the house of another friend, which he had left Weymouth
to joinHe came on the wings of disappointment, and with his
head full of acting, for it had been a theatrical party; and the play in
which he had borne a part was within two days of representation,
when the sudden death of one of the nearest connexions of the
family had destroyed the scheme and dispersed the performersTo

bowing with the air of one accustomed to public...
bowing with the air of one accustomed to public praise, he stole to the cavern and ordered Hagar to come forth with a commanding, "What ho, minion! I need thee!"
Out came Meg, with gray horsehair hanging about her face, a red and black robe, a staff, and cabalistic signs upon her cloakHugo demanded a potion to make Zara adore him, and one destroy RoderigoHagar, in a fine dramatic melody, promised both, and proceeded to call up the spirit who would bring the love philter
    Hither, hither, from thy home,
Airy sprite, I bid thee come!
Born of roses, fed on dew,
Charms and potions canst thou brew?
Bring me here, with elfin speed,
The fragrant philter which I need
Make it sweet and swift and strong,
    Spirit, answer now my song!
A soft strain of music sounded, and then at the back of the cave appeared a little figure in cloudy white, with glittering wings, golden hair, and a garland of roses on its headWaving a wand, it sang
    Hither I come,
    From my airy home,
    Afar in the silver moon
    Take the magic spell,
    And use it well,
Or its power will vanish soon!
And dropping a small, gilded bottle at the witch's feet, the spirit vanishedAnother chant from Hagar produced another apparition, not a lovely one, for with a bang an ugly black imp appeared and, having croaked a reply, tossed a dark replica tiffany jewelry bottle at Hugo and disappeared with a mocking laughHaving warbled his thanks and put the potions in his boots, Hugo departed, and Hagar informed the audience that as he had killed a few of her friends in times past, she had cursed him, and intends to thwart his plans, and be revenged on himThen the curtain fell, and the audience reposed and ate candy while discussing the merits of the play
A good deal of hammering went on before the curtain rose again, but when it became evident what a masterpiece of stage carpentery had been got up, no one murmured at the delayA tower rose to the ceiling, halfway up appeared a window with a lamp burning in it, and behind the white curtain appeared Zara in a lovely blue and silver dress, waiting for RoderigoHe came in gorgeous array, with plumed cap, red cloak, chestnut lovelocks, a guitar, and the boots, of courseKneeling at the foot of the tower, he sang a serenade in melting tonesZara replied and, after a musical dialogue, consented to flyThen came the grand effect of the playRoderigo produced a rope ladder, with five steps to it, threw up one end, and invited Zara to descendTimidly she crept from her lattice, put her hand on Roderigo's shoulder, and was about to leap gracfully down when "Alas! Alas for Zara!" she forgot her trainIt caught in the window, the tower tottered, cartier pasha watch leaned forward, fell with a crash, and buried the unhappy lovers in the ruins
A universal shriek arose as the russet boots waved wildly from the wreck and a golden head emerged, exclaiming, "I told you so! I told you so!" With wonderful presence of mind, Don Pedro, the cruel sire, rushed in, dragged out his daughter, with a hasty aside
"Don't laugh! Act as if it was all right!" and, ordering Roderigo up, banished him form the kingdom with wrath and scornThough decidedly shaken by the fall from the tower upon him, Roderigo defied the old gentleman and refused to stirThis dauntless example fired ZaraShe also defied her sire, and he ordered them both to the deepest dungeons of the castleA stout little retainer came in with chains and led them away, looking very much frightened and evidently forgetting the speech he ought to have made
Act third was the castle hall, and here Hagar appeared, having come to free the lovers and finish HugoShe hears him coming and hides, sees him put the potions into two cups of wine and bid the the timid little servant, "Bear them to the captives in their cells, and tell them I shall come anon The servant takes Hugo aside to tell him something, and Hagar changes the cups for two others which are harmlessFerdinando, the `minion', carries them away, and Hagar puts back the cup black quilted bag which holds the poison meant for RoderigoHugo, getting thirsty after a long warble, drinks it, loses his wits, and after a good deal of clutching and stamping, falls flat and dies, while Hagar informs him what she has done in a song of exquisite power and melody
This was a truly thrilling scene, though some persons might have thought that the sudden tumbling down of a quantity of long red hair rather marred the effect of the villain's deathHe was called before the curtain, and with great propriety appeared, leading Hagar, whose singing was considered more wonderful than all the rest of the performance put together
Act fourth displayed the despairing Roderigo on the point of stabbing himself because he has been told that Zara has deserted himJust as the dagger is at his heart, a lovely song is sung under his window, informing him that Zara is true but in danger, and he can save her if he willA key is thrown in, which unlocks the door, and in a spasm of rapture he tears off his chains and rushes away to find and rescue his lady love
Act fifth opened with a stormy scene between Zara and Don PedroHe wishes her to go into a convent, but she won't hear of it, and after a touching appeal, is about to faint when Roderigo dashes in and demands her handDon Pedro refuses, because he is not richThey shout and vintage rolex watch gesticulate tremendously but cannot agree, and Rodrigo is about to bear away the exhausted Zara, when the timid servant enters with a letter and a bag from Hagar, who has mysteriously disappearedThe latter informs the party that she bequeths untold wealth to the young pair and an awful doom to Don Pedro, if he doesn't make them happyThe bag is opened, and several quarts of tin money shower down upon the stage till it is quite glorified with the glitterThis entirely softens the stern sireHe consents without a murmur, all join in a joyful chorus, and the curtain falls upon the lovers kneeling to receive Don Pedro's blessing in attitudes of the most romantic grace
Tumultuous applause followed but received an unexpected check, for the cot bed, on which the dress circle was built, suddenly shut up and extinguished the enthusiastic audienceRoderigo and Don Pedro flew to the rescue, and all were taken out unhurt, though many were speechless with laughterthe excitement had hardly subsided when Hannah appeared, with "MrsMarch's compliments, and would the ladies walk down to supper
This was a surprise even to the actors, and when they saw the table, they looked at one another in rapturous amazementIt was like Marmee to get up a little treat for them, but anything so fine as this was unheard of since the departed days of chanel jumbo ple
